The pampered house guest

Do you go above and beyond for house guests? Do you iron the sheets, provide a luggage rack, compact iron, fabric hangers, personalized stationary, scented candles, fruit basket and cookie plate for your guests in their room? Check out Carolyn Roehm's ideas courtesy of Veranda Magazine.

Like her, I spritz lavender scented water on the sheets but I don't iron them (who has the time for that?). Our guest room is too tiny for a luggage rack or table ironing board, as she suggests. If it's a special out of town guest (ie: mother in law) I'll leave fresh flowers in the room. I usually do leave a few bottles of water and I keep a basket of fresh towels in our guest bedroom along with some good books on the bookshelf. I also keep a big bottle of liquid body wash in the shower (Dr. Bronners is my favorite) rather than wasting bars of soap after each guest. I have a medicine cabinet filled with toiletries from hotels, disposable razors, and toothbrushes and toothpaste, all of which our guests frequently use. Most of our guests are family or very close friends and we are such casual people that saying 'please make yourself at home', and showing them where everything is usually does the trick.

Check out these pictures of some of the elegant special touches Carolyn provides:

What special touches do you provide for your house guests?

  1. I am not quite as elaborate but I do pamper my guests with several of the same things.

I also include information on places to visit in Arizona and a few nice magazines with their interests in mind.

  2. Oh my. We have a guest house so we're able to provide our guests with some privacy. There is a small refrigerator and a television, and I try to keep the bathroom stocked nicely for them. I wash and spritz the sheets with Good Home Company Lavender but, the touches you've shown in the photos FAR outdo mine. I've got to step it up!!
