Bistro de Morning T {part deux}

One more peek into my little kitchen.
You were so nice yesterday {post here}I thought I'd invite you back in and let you see just a teeny bit more.
The view from the island, where I usually sit in the am {weekends only of course} with my coffee and my laptop. Many of you commented on the gray paint here in the kitchen. It was a small can of 'oops' paint from Lowe's {not helpful I know} and I originally wanted to add more gray to the kitchen so that our stainless fridge wouldn't look so out of place with all of the outdated white appliances. Unfortunately our stainless fridge was too big {and is now holding beer and water in the garage}, but I'm still happy with the gray walls.
Looking at the window over the kitchen sink.

Sunshine streaming into the window over the sink. I keep a lamp in this window and it's set on a timer so I don't ever have to turn on the horrific ceiling tube fixture above {straight out of the 70's}.
The full view of the bakers rack. See, it gets pretty junky down at the bottom...pans, strainers, dog food, water bottles...I really don't have room for this stuff in the cupboards.

The floors were green and white checkerboard linoleum when we moved in. Covering those suckers up was the first thing I did. My travertine~esque, peel and stick tiles have held up extremely well over the past 2 years and cost close to nothing!
I keep that little bench in front of the bakers rack {a bench for my handbag} and move it to the island, pull open the drop leaf, and blog away.
Full view into the dining room. We don't have a breakfast area in our house so we eat here in the dining room when we have company, or at the game table in the sun room {hubby breaks all of my rules and eats on the coffee table in the family room}.
Stepping into the dining room from the kitchen, this wall is directly to the right of the kitchen, or on the other side of the bakers rack.
I added my small milk glass plates to frame the botanicals and planted Irish moss (thank you Kathysue) in these mercury glass vases. We save all of our corks after our wine tasting parties and as you can see here, this demijohn has lots and lots of room.

OK, enough about me and my kitchen, I promise!!

I hope you're having a wonderful spring~y week out there.

Love the kitchen...your cabinets are great...sounds like they aren't user friendly for you, but they really look great! I love the gray walls and I love the bright light that your big window gives the room!!!

  4. Thanks for showing us more! I love the contrast with the gray and white! The bakers rack is the best - love all your collections on it! And the bench in the DR...LOVE LOVE LOVE it.
I would never have known those were peel and stick tiles - they look great. What a great solution to such a small space!
I'm going to have find myself a bench though - it's a garage sale mission. :)

  9. Tricia, Your kitchen is warm and inviting and best of all it looks user friendly. Love the contrast of the walls with all the white, great choice of color on your part. I think you are moving in a perfect direction for you and your home. Love the covered bench in the dining room. I spotted that right away. I don't mind the white appliances sweetie, but that is exactly what I bought for my vintagey kitchen. White never truly goes out but I don't think stainless will either so both would work. Have a wonderful day, I just had my morning coffee in your kitchen, Kathysue

  11. T! After that last post I was imagining what the rest of your kitchen must look like from how you described it! Poor thing, you must have hurt its feelings because it looks nothing like you described it! It is Bee-u-ti-ful! Seriously, you didn't do it justice and I think it's pretty darn special!

  14. I was here yesterday loving the way you put your bakers rack together.
And today Im so happy to get more of a look into your pretty kitchen. You painted a much different picture yesterday. I know this may not be your dream kitchen, neither is mine, but it really is beautiful and it has such a welcoming feel.
And you have my dream dining room and love all the wonderful windows. I could go on and on but my comment is too long already.
    Have a great day!

  19. Oh, I want to see more! I'm fairly new to your blog, and I want to see everything of course. I love your sunlit kitchen. I live in a garden home. And there's not one single window in my kitchen. I wash dishes and stare through the window into where I am typing. It was once a patio. Now it is a real room.

  24. I LOVE your kitchen, T! It might seem small and outdated to you, but it's much better than mine. ;) This gave me some great ideas for my own kitchen...I have white cabinets too, and I love the grey walls. :)

  26. T~I love the streams of light that shine throughout your charming kitchen. Everything looks so crisp and fresh. I love all your details, especially the "oops gray" paint against the white.
My home is an older style with a (very) small kitchen, so I've had to learn to be creative with my space, which is hard when you've got a plate addiction, lol.

    Sweet wishes,

  27. P.S. I had a chuckle when I read about your fridge. When our stainless fridge arrived it wouldn't fit, so we had to crop the cabinet to make enough room. only one person can stand in front when the doors open and no one can walk passed until the doors closed. It does carry quit a load of food though, lol.

    Sweet wishes,

  33. Tricia,

I have no idea how you found my blog but I am thrilled that you did because it led me to yours. I love love this kitchen. I am deeply disappointed that you don't know what color the paint is though. I have spent countless hours trying to find a good grey. Thank you for the kind words. I am looking forward to following this blog and to delving into it more.

    Have a good one
