Chinoiserie~T

Remember our close family friends with the gorgeous mountain home in Colorado? (here)
Well a few weeks after visiting them over Spring Break, a large box appeared on my front porch
.
{click on image to enlarge and say hello to Max}
Inside were three incredible shutters. These shutters had been sitting in their basement for years, collecting dust and spider webs and becoming more ratty and tattered {just like I ♥}.
It's just a shame that their gorgeous home is filled to the brim with art so they couldn't spare any space for these Chinese shutters. I was more than happy to edit my wall space to make room for these. Remember I moved the black Bombay table over to this wall to blend in with the dark walls a bit. Now it's my little chinoiserie section I guess...
Yes, I'm still mustering the courage to paint these chocolate brown walls white again. These shutters help with my transformation from dark to a bit lighter.Full view with my Morning T clock on the left.
The before shot {buried deep within the post}. We found this picture at an antique store on Bissonet a few years ago. It has a new home upstairs in our guest bedroom, which is tan and white. The ticket on one of the shutters:
There is Chinese writing down the back side of each shutter:

The third shutter has a bit more detail to it. For now I have it resting on the floor in our dining room and covering part of our very unattractive but necessary wine fridge. I'm curious where they found these shutters all those years ago...I'll be sure to ask when I visit Denver in a few weeks for my grandmother's 100th birthday, can you believe it?!

  1. They are beautiful, Tricia! Of course, I have a weakness for all things Chinese b/c we have a precious daughter from there! When we were there 2 years ago, we picked up several pieces of artwork and had them framed nicely when we arrived back home.

    Remember to tell us the story behind them when you find it out! :)

    And, I'm so glad that you get to celebrate your grandmother's 100th bday! My great aunt just turned 98 last week, and she's a PISTOL. ...still telling dirty jokes!

My sister has been wonderful about teaching her the history of her beautiful country. Of coarse, I think she is the most special treasure of all, but your shutters are pretty spectacular too!!! :-))) I love the chinese writing on the back Too cool!!!!!
