Inferiority complex

I try my best not to compare myself to others.
Envy is the art of counting the other fellow's blessings instead of your own. ~Harold Coffin

But when I stepped into my little sister's new closet last weekend and it went on,
and on,
and on...
...I couldn't help but feel the green-eyed monster creeping up on me.
You could fit a chaise lounge inside, and a desk, and clothes, and shoes, and jewelry, and handbags. You could fit past-season's clothes in her closet and wedding dresses and halloween costumes and totes and bins and boxes. It even has a full-length mirror!

Have I told you that I basically turned our master bedroom into a walk-in closet? We are so lacking in space (our room is always a big disaster area it is off limits to anyone but the four of us anyway) that it only made sense to purchase roll racks to line the walls and remove the frustration. While this not-so-visually-appealing solution has helped, when I see vast closets and storage space inside homes I can't help but feel green all over.

I do count my blessings that I have a roof over my head, but I curse 70-year old houses and the lack of storage space!

Just look at how the 'other~half' lives.

My little sis is going through a rough time right now so she deserves all the happiness that a large, fabulous closet can provide {plus, don't the youngest sisters secretly love it when their older sisters are jealous?!}~ "laissez les bon temps rouler" Ba! ♥ you AND your wicked big closet. ;)

  2. OMG! look at all those shoes!
You've inspired me to clean my closet today. Gotta get ready for Fall...just in case it ever comes. I too live in Houston. I long for cool weather every Fall...and pray we don't have to wear shorts on Christmas! lol

  3. I would love to
    be able to keep
    all season's worth
    of clothes in one
    closet. My friend
    in New Zealand has
    just one tiny closet
    but it works because
    the weather doesn't
    change significantly
    through the seasons.
    On the flip side,
    all of these clothes
    would be A LOT to
    manage!!!! Fun post : )!
    xx Suzanne
    PS: Isn't it awful
    to feel jealous of a
    sibling...? It's the
    worst ~ I know.

  4. hi t,

yes indeed that is how the other half lives. most of these people are multi-millionaires. it can really get to you, can't it? i have to tell myself that they are prob just as miserable as i am, no matter how many pairs of shoes they own, they can only wear one pair at a time.

    happy fall back at you.

  5. Love all the over the top closets you've shown, especially the first one! Surely there's something you can take from one of them to translate to your space! Come on, you're a decorating genius :) I've seen what you've done with the rest of your house.

  6. I'm a bit of a hippy; give me a pair of well worn jeans & a T shirt and I'm a happy camper. These closets don't do a thing for me.

    However, the poodle is PERFECTION!

  8. I think you've got the itch for change. You need to find something to paint, a new project, something to take your mind off the unreachable... Want to come over and help me? I've got LOTS of stuff to do this weekend ;)

  10. Good morning!

Those are beautiful pictures...however, think about all the excess! How would you ever make a decision? You'd have to have a separate closet servant just to keep it clean & then an entirely different servant just to put all the shoes back in alphabetical order! You need something to take your mind off of your sister...I'm new here, so I don't know all that you love yet...but how about painting something white? That always helps me! OR eat brownies with a symphony bar melted inside. That is always a wonderful solution!

    Happy to meet you!

Right now we have moving wardrobe boxes lining our bedroom wall and a rolling rack in one of the closets that we hadn't gotten around to designing the interiour of yet. Our coats have been in a pile on the guestroom floor since June...I feel your pain! I know it's only temporary but it's still not fun nor easy.

May you one day have the closet of your dreams...(addition?), and your visit & comment were a wonderful surprise this morning, thank you...so happy you visited!

  14. Wouldn't it be stressful trying to decide what to wear? Or couldn't you imagine falling off that ladder? I'm glad I don't have such worries!!

  15. I, too, need a real closet. My bedroom is mostly a closet, too. One day I will have a real on again, but I really do love my 80 year old house, so I won't complain.

  16. loved learning that you have a little sister!

we have a tee-tiny little master bedroom closet, too, that we share!!!

Now that I've seen those amazing closets, I think I need to come sit in the corner with you and be GREEN, too!!

  17. Yes, I would love a four season closet. So far we operate on two seasons - spring/summer and fall/winter. The off season clothes always get so wrinkly in the storage boxes.

  18. We are going to be losing soooo much closet space when we move into our new (old) house. Still, it's worth it. Just an excuse to buy more armoires. ;-)
