...came to a screeching halt when I opened my car door to take my kiddo to school this morning.
What the? Wait a minute. Was my husband out here rummaging around in my car last night? Everything had been rifled through. What about his car? Same thing, car doors left slightly ajar, glove compartments wide open with all of the contents spilled out over the car seats. Our garage door was wide open and a few things were noticeably missing. My poor daughter was so scared to even ride in my car to school today.
EEK~ both of our cars were rummaged through AND our garage as well. Nothing was damaged and nothing of value was taken {sunglasses, ipod, bike missing in garage later found in neighbors yard}. It's such a scary feeling to know that a stranger sat in your car which was sitting in the driveway right underneath your bedroom window, and went through all of your stuff. They even moved the seat back a bit to get comfy! We are wise enough to not leave anything of value in our cars or in our garage but it's still unnerving. While filing a report with our local police this morning they mentioned that crime has spiked quite a bit in/around the Houston area and in our neighborhood in particular. Come to find out a few other cars/garages on our block were targeted last night as well.
By 2pm today we had motion lights installed in our porte cochere and a new lock put on the garage door. The strangest thing of all was that I woke up early this morning after having a horrible nightmare of a home robbery. In my dream I was protecting my daughter and tried to scream for help but nothing would come out, over and over. It felt so horrible and I was shaken for awhile after waking up. Only to find out we really were violated.
The police are out in full force, driving the streets so hopefully this was a one-time event and again, I know we are SO lucky. It's funny because we live in one of the smallest houses on the block so we always figured we're not that attractive to robbers.
Well here's to a save and drama free weekend everyone and getting back to living in our worlds of 'pinterest' dreams!! ☺

Oh Tricia~~ That is so awful!! I can only imagine how scared your daughter was. Mine would be the same. We have had our share of robberies in my neighborhood too. It is unnerving.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are all safe:)

Horrible!
ReplyDeleteHaving that dream is scary. I wonder if you heard something and in your mind thought about it being an intruder and fel back to sleep. Scary. It will take some time for your daughter.....getting the motion detector and new locks should help her feel better. Glad that you are okay.
ReplyDeleteOMG! That is scary! I live in a subdivision and we often get reports about people's cars in the area being broken into if they're not locked in the driveway. We have neighborhood watch signs posted and try to be aware of who and who does not belong here. You can never be too careful. Glad he didn't break into your home. A home invasion would be my biggest fear! On a brighter note....LOVE that first pic of that darling kitchen.
ReplyDeleteOh T - I am so sorry about this and I know it was so scary! I am glad your home and your family were protected!
ReplyDeleteThe same thing happened to us last summer. All the cars, and then they tried to get into the garage thru the porte cochere entrance, but I have furniture in there that wouldn't budge, thank goodness. (Hoarding is good!) Video captured the time and vehicle, but they weren't caught.
ReplyDeleteI think your intuition kicked in, your subconscious knew something was wrong. That dream of not being able to scream is terrifying. I'll bet baby girl is sleeping with Mom and Dad tonite. It's such a horrible feeling. So glad y'all are safe.
Tricia that is so frightening. It sounds like your woman's intuition was working in full force. Glad nothing of value was taken and that there was no damage done to your property. Keep Safe,

That is so awful. Your poor daughter. I think the feeling violated is the worst part about something like that happening. When someone steals your sense of being safe is way worse than taking any material object. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteSo sad isn't it.Here in Oregon the same thing is going on at 10 pm people caught someone in their garage. At least they didn't break a window to get in.Scary huh! ~Cheers Kim
ReplyDeleteOh No! I'm glad they didn't get anything. I hope you guys can feel safer soon.
ReplyDeleteLive in The Woodlands. The news has been full of this stuff. Glad you are all okay and just wish somehow this would stop. Happened to us a few years back. Got prescription sunglasses of my brothers...what good to anyone?
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your blog, always!
Hello
ReplyDeleteMany thanks, fairly refreshing, I enjoyed reading your article, You are wonderful!
Thank you!
Tricia, I'm so sorry...what a shock you all had, glad more wasn't taken and most of all, that they didn't get into the house.
ReplyDeleteThe crime rate is up in our area as well, and just last week, the police were looking for a thief in our backyard at 2:30AM lights, cars, etc...someone had burgled a neighbors house...I think they eventually caught the person, thank heavens, though not on our lot.
I wonder if you heard anything while you were sleeping that prompted your dream, and glad it *was only a dream*!
Happy you're all okay...and that your home is a bit more secure now.
Have a peaceful Sunday...
xo J~
thankful you didn't lose more....praying for you all, especially your daughter, as she tries to rationalize all that happened.
ReplyDeleteso sorry you experienced this violation!!!!
Tricia- that sucks. I remember my hubby car was at the airport and some thugs broke in only to take some small change in the cup holder and some of my childrens diapers in the glove box. They chose the wrong car! Stay strong.
ReplyDeleteO that's horrible. Friends of ours just had their house broken into this past week. Broke her eldest daughter's bedroom window to gain entrance. Needless to say she has not been sleeping in her room since then.
ReplyDeleteGlad that you didn't lose anything of great value but yest it's a horrible feeling when you realize what happened.
Lovely blog; I'm a new follower!
