Tuesday in Bruges

Tuesday in Bruges.

We set out with no itinerary. It was a cloudy, chilly day {another reason Monday was my favorite}, and we just wanted to discover as much of this captivating town as we could on our last day here. The Church of Our Lady tower can be seen in the distance.

After picking up one of these delicious treats sold everywhere in town...

...{and devouring every.single.bite.of it myself} we made our way back to my favorite place, the Begihnhof area.
From here we continued our leisurely day as tourists, shopping, eating and taking in the sites.

A statue of medieval painter Jan van Eyck below.
I loved the colorful buildings along the canal behind the statue.
A church near the statue. Notice the religious carvings between each window.

This was our favorite Belgian chocolate shop, just a block from our hotel. They gave us an abundance of samples each time we visited and we ended up loading up our luggage with lots of delicious Belgian treats for our friends back home. A weathered Belgian home along a quiet street.

A chippy old green door surrounded by brick.
We never did take a canal tour as it was a bit too chilly on Tuesday, but this is the spot where the tours begin.

A quiet, cobblestone street. Notice the large religious carving on the corner of the building.
A restaurant patio along the canal.

The main Market Square was just 2 blocks from our hotel and is the central park of Bruges. As we hurried to the train station early on Wednesday morning the weekly market was in full swing. We really wished we had one or two more days in Bruges to get to experience everything.
This area is called the Burg and we strolled past it several times a day as it's just a block from our hotel. To the right of the large city hall building you'll see a dark gray church. This is the Basilica of the Holy Blood. This was built around 1134 and they have a relic of the holy blood here in this church {a piece of blood-stained cloth which, according to legend, came from the body of Christ}.

We didn't get to see the relic but the church itself was lovely and the story fascinating. I did purchase a pretty set of white pearl rosary beads here. Flemish stew at a local restaurant for lunch~ it was delish! Funny, both evenings here we dined at Indian restaurants. Who comes to Bruges and eats Indian food? We do I guess. ☺

Hubby said it was some of the best he's ever had.

My sweet girl posing in Market Square.
Not only do the Belgians do beer, chocolate and waffles to perfection, they are on the cupcake train with the rest of the globe. Yum...

The main shopping strip. We had fun starting our spring shopping in some of the local stores here {Dutch, Belgian and even some Danish designs}.

I was in heaven in the Belgian interior design store, DeMunt. The smallest thing I could find was a wooden cutting board which now sits happily on my kitchen counter.

My little fashionista scored a cute green scarf (she needed it today, it was chilly!) and those periwinkle jeans on the trip.

And that's a wrap for the Bruges portion of our Spring Break trip.

I'll be back soon with a full post on Amsterdam and my recent finds at Round Top!

  8. Kitchen is most probably your family’s favourite haven so there shouldn’t be any doubt that you should look for a kitchen countertops with utmost elegance and quality.

  9. It is always a smart idea to use wood countertops for your home. If you already have a different countertop, you can simply replace it with the wooden countertop. No other countertop can turn your home as beautiful as a wooden countertop.
