{kitchen dreams}

Over the past few years I've collected quite a few 'inspiration' photos of white kitchens.  Pictures of white kitchens torn out of magazines and saved in a file at home, pictures of white kitchens saved on my computer, and pictures of white kitchens all over my pinterest boards.

The funny thing is, I have a white kitchen which is just about the size of the image below.  With white cupboards {in pretty good shape} with simple brushed nickel hardware.

And I also have a window above my kitchen sink just like this.

But I'm missing the butcher block counter tops.

I'm also missing white subway tile and/or beadboard.

The oh so beloved apron front farm sink, I'm missing this in a big way!

With a shiny new faucet that isn't rusty and leaky.

But in my little rental home a $2,000 sink/faucet certainly isn't going to happen.

Hmmm, what's a girl to do?

This little number would sure be sweet in my little white kitchen. But is it too big for my small space?

Aha, a smaller single version exists!

AND it's only $186 ~ yay Ikea!

And just like Becky recently added in her gorgeous kitchen remodel, 1 1/2" butcher block counter tops for only $169.

One step closer to having a few more elements of that dream kitchen in our severely outdated little home.

This is how I left my kitchen this morning and with any luck it won't look the same when I return home from work this evening, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'll share the details with you as things progress but I can tell you I'm ecstatic for this mini kitchen face lift!!!  ☺

  2. so funny. When I was reading, I kept thinking, "does she know that she can get these at Ikea for a fraction of the cost?" I, too, have a rental kitchen. And I have been slowly redoing it. The next step is to add the Ikea apron sink and oak countertops. I had beadboard added to the side on the kitchen counter that faces the living room. I am going to use the leftover boards as a backsplash. My kitchen is tiny so the investment will be fairly small. Nevertheless I am very excited about it! Can't wait to see yours.

  4. MC~ as you can see from the photo of my kitchen this morning our space is teeny too so not much of an investment needed to do some updating.

  5. Hi Jenny~ we popped into our Ikea store last week and they just so happened to have the sink and countertops in stock. Both are hard to come by in the Houston store and I was preparing myself for a drive to Dallas to pick them up. Our handyman can do the work so it all came together pretty quickly. Now if this dang rain would just stop so he could get over there and start the work! ;)

  16. Love all the inspiration. I am still in the middle of redoing our kitchen. I have the smaller IKEA apron front sink too and I love it. For years I had always wanted one but they weren't common so they were really expensive. Thanks goodness they came to the rescue!

  20. I love how you've taken your "rental" house and made it a home. The woman you're renting from must feel like she's hit the jackpot with all the wonderful rings you'e done! Can't wait to see you're work! I've got kitchens on the brain, too. No French gourmet kitchen going on here in the country! xoxo!

  22. Hi Tara~ yes, we've already been in this house for 4 years and plan to stay a few more! The owners are great at keeping the house up for us (new washer dryer, new roof, relandscaped front and back yard, etc) that we figured this minor reno in the kitchen was a win win for all involved. ;)
